Fort De Soto Park (3500 Pinellas Bayway S, Tierra Verde, FL 33715) covers 1,136 acres across five interconnected islands at the mouth of Tampa Bay — home to one of the top-rated beaches in the country, a historic Spanish-American War fort, kayak and canoe trails, and 7 miles of paved multi-use trails. It's a go-to destination for school field trips, family reunions, and bachelor/bachelorette day outings. The park entrance is off the Pinellas Bayway (SR-682), about 11 miles south of downtown St. Pete.
The access road becomes a single-lane crawl on peak summer weekend days, with parking at the two main beach lots filling by 10 AM. A charter bus enters via the group vehicle lane, drops passengers at the beach or the fort area, and parks in the designated bus and RV area near the North Beach lot — so your group doesn't have to fight for individual parking spaces. Entrance is free; the Pinellas Bayway toll is $0.75 per axle for standard vehicles.
Check the official Pinellas County Fort De Soto page for current group access information.
